Hello! This blog is a personal experiment to step out of my comfort zone. As you may be aware, the blog title is inspired from the poem Funeral Blues by W.H.Auden.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest.

But for me, East and West have a special significance. I am fortunate to be able to dip into the endless storehouse of culture both lay at my disposal, offering a daily source of delight and inspiration.

Poetry is a new-found passion that I have been indulging for a couple of years. While the inspiration that motivates one to write a poem may be purely personal, the scope of the piece can be undeniably universal. I sincerely hope that any passerby who comes this way would find something here that resonates with him or her. Thank you for your time.

A note of warning: you may find some rhyming verses here. I know it is no longer the done thing but I write for myself and like to occasionally indulge this truly delectable pleasure. In all honesty, how can I claim to love classic poetry (I do!) and condemn the practice of rhyming in the same breath? So I take my inspiration as it comes – rhymed or in free verse, I receive it with gratitude.

About

Hello! This is my first foray into the world of blogs. Writing in solitude is always a delight, now let me see if my words can withstand the scrutiny of more critical eyes.

I am Sandhya. For several years, I taught French at various Alliance Française centres in India and also did technical translations. Currently I am based in Utrecht in the Netherlands.  I spend my days teaching French, reading, writing, learning languages, enjoying long walks, exploring new music and looking for excuses to give shape to anything that touches me, which as it happens is nearly everything around me.
